El Cotillo or Corralejo?
Two very different sides of Fuerteventura's north coast, just 20 minutes apart.
Corralejo is the bigger, busier resort — more restaurants, more nightlife, and easy to reach without a car. El Cotillo is a small, laid-back fishing village with a genuinely local feel, better suited to surfers and anyone after a quiet base. They're close enough (about 20 minutes apart) that many visitors see both.

El Cotillo at a glance
El Cotillo, on the northwest coast, is one of Fuerteventura's most authentic villages. The northern beach faces the open Atlantic and produces consistent surf, while the sheltered lagoons to the south are calm and safe for swimming. A community of artists, yoga practitioners and long-term expats gives the village a relaxed, creative feel, but the trade-off is far fewer restaurants and shops than a purpose-built resort.

Corralejo, at the island's northern tip, is Fuerteventura's most popular and best-connected resort — a lively harbour, a wide choice of restaurants, and more going on after dark than almost anywhere else on the island. Its dune beaches and reliable trade winds also make it the island's main hub for kite and windsurfing.

Travelling without a car: Corralejo is the easier base, though El Cotillo is still workable via the hourly bus between the two.
Getting between them
El Cotillo and Corralejo are about 20 km apart along the north coast via Lajares, roughly 20-25 minutes by car. A Tiadhe bus also runs between them, about once an hour, taking around 50 minutes — an easy day trip in either direction, with or without a car.
