El Puertito

The official PR-FV 56 route is a circular walk of around 8.3 kilometres, starting and ending at El Puertito and following the coastline out to Caleta de la Madera before looping back. Most walkers take around three hours, though the remoteness and rough, unmarked terrain in places mean it takes longer than the distance alone suggests.

There's no shade, no facilities and no mobile signal for long stretches, so this isn't a route to attempt lightly — bring plenty of water, tell someone your route and timing in advance, and don't underestimate how isolated this stretch of coast really is compared with the rest of the island.

What makes El Puertito worth the effort is exactly what keeps most visitors away: there's nothing built here beyond a dozen or so simple houses, no cafés, no sun loungers, and the beach itself is dark volcanic stone rather than golden sand. It's a genuine, still-functioning fishing settlement rather than a restored or curated one, and the coastline around it — cliffs, black rock and open Atlantic swell — looks much as it would have a century ago.

For visitors who've already seen Fuerteventura's resort beaches and want a sense of how empty and wild most of the island's coast actually is beyond the tourist strip, this is about as far from that as the Jandía peninsula gets.
